This is a basic low-fat
white sauce I use for quite a number of recipes. I use this as a base for a
cheese sauce, continuing with low-fat cheese. I also add herbs to this base and
use it as a sauce for pot pies. It is also a great base for creamed pasta
sauces, just season it up as desired and toss it with cooked pasta.
INGREDIENTS
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons GF all-purpose
flour
1 1/4 cups fat-free evaporated
milk
salt, to taste
pepper, to taste
DIRECTIONS
Melt butter over medium-low
heat in a sauce pan
Stir in flour; cook for one
minute while stirring
Increase heat to medium-high
and whisk in milk a bit at a time
Add salt and pepper; bring
to a boil.
Lower heat to medium-low; cook
until thickened, about 5 minutes, whisking continually.
