This is one of my husband’s
favourite meals, he calls this "Pure Comfort Food". It is quick and easy to put together but tastes good enough to serve to special guests.
INGREDIENTS
1 pound lean ground beef
3 tablespoons minced onion
1 tablespoon GF beef bouillon
granules
1 tablespoon rice flour
1 egg
2 cloves garlic, processed
through garlic press
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon fresh ground
pepper
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Mushroom Gravy
8 ounces chopped mushrooms
1 clove garlic, processed
through garlic press
1 1/2 cups good quality beef
stock
1 tablespoon corn-starch
1 teaspoon prepared mustard
1 bay leaf
DIRECTIONS
Mix together the beef, minced
onion, beef bouillon granules, rice flour, egg, garlic, oregano and pepper and
form into 4 patties about 1" thick.
Heat oil in a large skillet
over medium heat, add patties and cook until you have nice golden brown crust
on both sides about 5 minutes per side; remove patties from skillet and set
aside.
Prepare gravy by adding the
mushrooms and garlic to skillet and cook while scrapping up the browned bits until
mushrooms start to soften and sweat, about 5 minutes.
In a large measuring cup,
whisk the remaining gravy ingredients together, return the patties to skillet.
and pour in the beef stock mixture and bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer
for 15 stirring every so often so it doesn't bubble over. (The sauce may have a
frothy texture at first but that will disappear while simmering).
Remove bay leaf and serve.
